Ingredients
- 1 box of brownie mix (16–18 oz, Ghirardelli Double Chocolate recommended)
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Rainbow sprinkles
Instructions
Make the Brownies:
- Prepare the brownie batter according to the package directions.
- Bake in a 9×13 inch pan (or a slightly smaller pan if you prefer thicker brownies).
- Once baked, allow the brownies to cool for about an hour before adding frosting.
Make the Frosting:
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, then bring to a rolling boil. Continue boiling for exactly 45 seconds (set a timer to avoid overcooking).
- Remove from heat and immediately stir in the chocolate chips. Whisk until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
Frost the Brownies:
- Quickly pour the warm frosting over the cooled brownies, spreading it evenly with a spatula. The frosting will begin to set rapidly, so work fast.
- Before the frosting sets, generously sprinkle rainbow sprinkles on top.
Rest and Serve:
- Let the frosting set for 15-30 minutes depending on how cleanly you'd like the brownies to cut.
- Once set, slice the brownies and serve. Party time!
Notes:
- Using a 9×13 pan yields a good frosting-to-brownie ratio. For slightly thicker brownies, use a smaller rectangular pan (about 10.5 x 7.5). Avoid square pans, as the frosting may become too thick.
- If the frosting begins to harden before you add sprinkles, gently press the sprinkles into the frosting using the back of a spoon to help them adhere.
